Ladies and gentlemen, I give you — [insert dramatic drum roll here] ignorance at its finest. Before I get started, however, let me point out that I unconditionally and impartially support the 1st amendment rights of anti-war protestors, and for that fact all protestors. They have every right to express their discountenance with the war in Iraq, and when I say the right - I mean, the right - as in, not even going to try and go around that. In fact, I encourage political activism; it will help to educate us all and strengthen the United States.
In some cases though, I must just stop and laugh at the ignorance of some people. Protestors today called for Congress to cutoff funding for the war “now.” Well, “now” is not going to do any good. In fact, cutting off funding, or not appropriating the funding requested — would kill more soldiers than it would save. Cutting off funding is not a viable method to bring the troops home. Notice the Democrats in Congress have not tried that yet - and we all know democrats are doing everything they can to lose the war in Iraq. It would take a year, maybe two to bring all the troops, tanks, planes, supplies etc home from Iraq and would cost millions, maybe even billions. Cutoff funding and this process would just be slowed.
But this is my favorite part:
“Leslie Kielsen, a local UPAJ organizer, said the “half a trillion” dollars spent on the war was money that could have been used for education, housing and to feed the hungry.”
Hah! That’s a good one. Does Leslie Kielsen actually think it is the government’s job to educate, house and feed the people of the United States? Well, Leslie I’m sorry, it is not the government’s job to educate, house and feed - but I’ll give you kudos Leslie, the government does not know this either. It is, however, the government’s job to protect this country and its interests around the world.
Now, the support for a fellow American in dire need is something I think every person in this country stands for, as do I. But there is a difference between an American in dire need and a welfare-tit bred American. This country needs to be weened off the government bottle. Education is something every American should have, but the government has proved itself ineffective at educating; therefore, it should not do it. Homelessness is a growing problem in this country but it is not a problem that government should or can solve. Temporary subsidized housing for those in need is a great idea - permanent subsidized housing for those merrily sucking away on the government tit and bottle, on the other hand, is a horrible idea.
Like I said, I support their right to protest - but wow.
